Hornet Community Bus Tour

The Hornet Community Bus Tour (HCBT) is a two day tour which familiarizes Sac State faculty and staff with the communities where they reside, work, and engage in recreational activities. The tour aims to develop meaningful relationships that could lead to a diverse range of opportunities. These include opportunities for students, fostering research collaborations that are mutually beneficial, engaging in projects with community partners, and offering chances to volunteer with different organizations.

  • Wednesday, May 27, 12:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m (drive yourself)
  • Thursday, May 28, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (travel on a charter bus)

HCBT Learning Objectives

  1. Introduce participants to Sacramento geographically, culturally, and historically
  2. Understand the history, strengths and desires of different communities in Sacramento that are underserved
  3. Allow faculty to visit their community partners and learn about projects in various communities
  4. Promote teaching, research and service opportunities through partnering organizations
  5. Understand how campus-community partnerships are generated
  6. See examples of ongoing campus-community partnerships
  7. Illustrate ideas for research and teaching collaborations throughout the local community
  8. Foster faculty connectedness across disciplines
  9. Foster a sense of belonging within the Sacramento community
  10. Facilitate relationships between community partners
