Adding an SI Class

During the beginning of the semester, each SI class is available to be added for university credit. Students are encouraged to reach out to their respective SI leader and attend their SI session. After doing so, students can make the decision to add.

Add forms for the SI class will be provided by their SI leader. This will also allow SI leaders to give students access to the class Canvas page. In order to ensure student's obtain university credit, students must add the SI class before the University Census Date.

Student Responsibilities

While SI is a structured group study session, it does not replace the main lecture class. Students are responsible for attending the class while coming to SI for additional study support! Come to SI! SI is built around peer-to-peer learning, so your participation is vital to the collaborative learning experience. Missing a session will be detrimental to the group learning process.

Other Benefits of Joining SI

SI Office Hours!

In addition to the Supplemental Instruction class, students also get access to their SI leader's office hours. Each SI leader hosts an office hour once a week for their students. This is the perfect environment for students to get more specific help or targeted review.

Exam Review Sessions!

Each SI leader creates review material for their SI classes and hosts a review session prior to each exam. This serves as a great opportunity for students to make sure they are ready for midterms. This occurs again during finals week.

University Credit!

All SI students have an opportunity to receive one unit for successfully attending the SI sessions.

Equitable Learning

SI sessions are designed to cater to multiple learning styles and diverse cultural backgrounds with multi-modality. SI leaders are trained on universal and inclusive practices including serving students with disabilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

"I'm too stressed to add another class to my busy schedule. Is it worth it?"

Students often are under the impression that joining another 'class' will result in the accumulation of more work. Outside of the time commitment of going to the SI class and its optional office hours, students actually feel more relief in their lecture classes. Instead of struggling through the material outside of class alone, SI students navigate topics together. Thus, this helps save SI students time when they go to work on their assignments.

"I can't add any more units! Can I still join?"

Reach out to your SI leader and we will see if we can fix your unit problem. You can also apply for extra units by filling out an OnBase request through the Registrar's Office.
