About The Department
The English department of California State University, Sacramento, is a community of teachers, scholars, writers, and support staff whose primary mission is to promote learning in composition, creative writing, English education, linguistics, literature, and the teaching of English as a second language.
We offer two Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees: a B.A. in English and a B.A. in English-Precredential (Single Subject with Pre-Credential Preparation degree). We offer three Minor programs: Creative Writing, English, and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages); we also offer a TESOL certificate for undergraduates.
We offer two M.A. progams: the English M.A. and the TESOL M.A. The English program is designed for students who have had substantial undergraduate preparation in English, and is of special value to students who plan to teach English in a community college, who wish to further develop their creative writing talent, or who expect to pursue a Ph.D. in English. The program is divided into three concentrations: literature, creative writing, and composition. The TESOL program is recommended for candidates wishing to teach ESL in community college programs or in university programs in the US or overseas. In addition to our M.A. programs, we offer certificates for M.A. students in TESOL and Teaching Composition.
