Joint Phd in Public History with UCSB

The Joint PhD program in Public History is a collaboration between Sacramento State and the University of California, Santa Barbara. Graduates of this program use their degree in many ways, from tenure track positions at universities to management positions at public history institutions.

Students without an MA can apply either directly to UCSB or CSUS. If you apply for the CSUS MA (highly encouraged), you can then apply to UCSB for the joint program once you are near completion of the MA. You can then do your doctoral work at UCSB. Students in the joint program need at least one year residency at each campus. If you have an MA, apply to UCSB, indicating that you want to be considered for the joint program. Students in the Joint PhD Program are required to spend at least a year at CSUS.

For more information about the program, please contact Rebekkah Mulholland at Sacramento State and Sarah Case at UC Santa Barbara.
