BizGen1 is a peer mentorship program specifically designed to support first-generation business students within Sac State's College of Business. Coordinated by the COB Office of Student Engagement, the program's goal is to help first-gen biz students build community, access key resources, and thrive throughout their academic journeys.

Whether you have questions, need support, or want to meet other first-generation business students, BizGen1 is here for you! Stop by our office (TAH 1030), attend a BizGen1 event, or schedule a meeting with one of your peer mentors—we’re excited to support your journey in the College of Business, and we can’t wait to see what you achieve!

Are YOU a BizGen1 Student?

A BizGen1 student is either “Expressed Interest” or currently declared within the business major, and meets one of the following first-generation student qualifying criteria:

1. Neither natural nor adoptive parent(s) has earned a bachelor’s degree
2. You lived with and received support from only one parent before age 18, and that parent did not earn a bachelor’s degree
3. Before age 18, you did not regularly live with nor receive support from either natural or adoptive parent(s)

CONNECT: BizGen1 Peer Mentors

BizGen1 Peer Mentors support your success by offering:

• Non-academic guidance and encouragement
• Help connecting with campus resources
• Updates on events and opportunities for first-gen business students
• One-on-one mentoring (in person or via Zoom, by appointment)
• Warm referrals to campus departments, with follow-up support

ENGAGE: BizGen1 Events

BizGen1 events are tailored especially for first-generation business students. They offer opportunities to:

• Build connections with faculty, staff, and peers
• Explore student clubs and engagement opportunities
• Learn about academic support and career resources
• Strengthen your sense of belonging in the College of Business

SUCCEED: BizGen1 GPS Program

The BizGen1 GPS (Guiding your Path to Success) Program is designed to expand your network, connect you with student success resources, and help you become more engaged with both the College of Business and Sac State as a whole.

Housed within its own unique Canvas course, the program spans nearly the full length of the spring semester, giving students the freedom and flexibility to complete tasks when it is most convenient for their schedules. Additionally, three levels of completion allow students to adjust their goals as needed, and all those who participate are invited to an end of year celebration.
