ECS Inclusive Belonging & Engagement Committee (IBEC)

Statement by the IBEC

The College of Engineering and Computer Science stands committed to and is dedicated to fostering a community that values and celebrates diversity, inclusive belonging, and engagement. We recognize that our strength lies in our differences and strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported. We consider diversity and inclusion to be key drivers of innovation and creativity, which are essential in our fields. We are committed to promoting an inclusive culture that celebrates the diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences of our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to eliminate all forms of discrimination, bias, and prejudice, and to create a sense of belonging for all members of our community.

We foster equity in all aspects of our day-to-day operations and planning, including hiring, curricular development, and retention. Sacramento State University is both a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institute (AANAPISI). We provide educational opportunities and resources to help all members of our community understand and appreciate the value of diversity, inclusive belonging, and engagement. Our goal is to create a supportive community that encourages the expression of individuality and promotes the growth and development of all members. We work together to eliminate barriers, encourage dialogue, and foster a sense of belonging and community in our programs.

As a college, we are devoted to making a positive impact on the world through our teaching, research and scholarly activities, as well as university and community service efforts. By fostering a culture of inclusive belonging and engagement, we believe we can create a brighter future for our campus and community. Together, we will continue to build an inclusive, equitable, and respectful culture, where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their dreams and make a positive impact on the Sacramento region and the broader global community.
