Opportunities for Engagement
The College of Engineering & Computer Science maintains strong ties with its alumni, donors, and friends within the greater engineering, computer science, and construction management communities. There are many ways that individuals, corporations, foundations, and other organizations can become more involved with our students, faculty, and staff and the programs that support them.
Share Alumni News
Alumni, if you have a story idea or information to share, we want to hear about it!
Tell us about life or career accomplishments since graduation from Sacramento State, and include a photo if you have one, and you may find yourself in an alumni newsletter or annual report. Contact the ECS Dean’s Office at (916) 278-6366.
College Events
Fall Welcomes and “Evenings With Industry” - Every fall, our departments welcome students back by hosting events that offer a unique interaction between students and representatives from various industries. Panelists from all sectors of the professional community discuss recent projects, and answer student questions about career opportunities, industry trends, and life after graduation.
Senior Project Showcase - Each semester, the College hosts an event that showcases senior design projects including hardware demonstrations, and poster and PowerPoint presentations. This showcase is free, and open to the public and members of professional community.
If you want to gain recognition of your company by students or faculty/staff, you can sponsor a College event, such as:
- Annual Student “Welcome Back” BBQ or Spring “Resource Fair.”
- Annual College Scholarship Reception (particularly nice if you already support or want to support a scholarship).
- National “ECS Week,” where we host a series of events for our students and local K-12 schools with potential “future Hornets.”
- Discussion, Discovery, Dissemination (“D3”) Reception, where faculty talk about their scholarly interests with potential collaborators.
- ECS Joint Council (ECSJC) Community Exposition, which is our annual student-run exposition of student projects and competition teams.
- New Faculty Orientation, where we provide support to new full-time and part-time faculty.
You could also sponsor the ECS student t-shirts that are given to new students or ECS polos that are given to full-time faculty and staff each year.
Hire Our Students
ECS Internship and Career Services Office hosts career fairs in the fall and spring, bringing together firms and agencies seeking to improve or expand their workforce with our students. The ECS Internship and Career Services Office can also facilitate information sessions or help conduct oncampus interviews throughout the year. For more info, visit the ECS Internship & Career Center.
Speak as a Guest
Seminars - Guest speakers are sought for introductory seminar courses to introduce students to different disciplines and career opportunities within the engineering and computer science fields.
Student Clubs - The College has active professional student organizations that seek industry guest speakers or localproject tour guides. These student organizations also have teams that welcome guidance on activities related to annual student competitions. A list of clubs is found at www.ecs.csus.edu/clubs.
Serve on Advisory Committees
The College and its departments meet with active members in the local engineering, computer science, and construction management communities who provide guidance and recommendations to our programs and to help organize industry events. Please email the Dean’s office if interested in joining a committee: ecs-doassist@csus.edu
Mentor a Student Organization or Competitive Team
Many of our professional student organizations compete against other universities, and they seek coaching and mentorship from industry leaders.
Support or Mentor a Senior Design Team
Every semester, our senior design courses seek project suggestions as well as involvement by practicing, professionals who serve as either “technical mentors” or “clients” to provide guidance or evaluate completed student projects. Please email the Dean’s office if interested: ecs-doassist@csus.edu
Sponsor a Collaborative Research Project
Our faculty and graduate students welcome partnerships with practicing engineers to work on industry-inspired and sponsored research projects. The College can serve as a resource for the local professional community.
Teach as a Part-Time Instructor
Our departments are always looking for qualified and enthusiastic part-time instructors who can help teach courses that meet the demands of our growing student population. Teaching experience is not required, but there are academic and professional requirements.

Support the Hornet Leadership Program
Available to all College of Engineering and Computer Science students at Sacramento State, the Hornet Leadership Program (HLP) is an extra-curricular program with a goal to produce college graduates who are prepared for leadership in their career field. Topics include critical thinking, conflict resolution, strategic planning, communication (verbal, written), business etiquette, Robert’s Rules, budgets and contracts, intellectual property, and ethics in the profession.
The Hornet Leadership Program is self-sustained through the generous support from our industry partners. The culminating experience of the program is a student-led community engagement project.
Sponsor an ECS Student Ambassador or Student Assistant
The College has launched a new outreach and recruitment program to employ our students to give campus tours of ECS labs and community outreach to visit local high schools. This program is focused on showcasing our existing labs to the diverse population of middle and high school students, as well as community college students, who visit the Sac State campus to learn more about being a “Future Hornet.”
Your sponsorship will support the training and materials necessary to effectively represent the college to the general public. There are also opportunities to sponsor student employees who assist our college equipment technicians in our MADLab or our college IT staff.
Donate Gifts in Kind: Communications/Marketing
Our focus is on educating the leaders of tomorrow. We do not always have the resources to produce communications/marketing materials for our wide audience of stakeholders which include current and prospective students and their families, current and prospective faculty/staff, or our alumni and industry stakeholders.
Let’s work together to produce promotional materials, such as semesterly newsletters, promotional “one- pagers,” short videos, photography services, and social media posts that we can like and share with others. The list of ways you or your organization could help is long. Let’s talk about how you can help make a difference.
