Outstanding Faculty Awards Policy and Additional Criteria

ECS Outstanding Faculty Award (OFA) - Additional Criteria, Eligibility, and Application Procedures

Once the candidate accepts the nomination, they must submit supporting material to the College Awards Committee by the deadline. The candidate’s supporting material should provide a clear, strong case for the award and demonstrate that their work is well beyond regular responsibilities and basic eligibility requirements.

The following additional ECS criteria for the ECS Outstanding Faculty Awards complement, but are in addition to, the Faculty Senate OFA Policy criteria, last published April 18, 2013.

Outstanding Teaching Award

Each applicant shall submit a statement of teaching effectiveness, as established over the most recent three-year period. The statement shall not exceed three single-spaced, single-sided pages. The statement may broadly address areas such as:

• Teaching philosophy
• Teaching effectiveness
• Variety of courses taught
• Evidence of impact on students
• Creative and innovative pedagogical methods
• Student evaluations

Scholarly and Creative Activities Award

Each applicant shall submit a statement of research and scholarly activities as established over the most recent three-year period. The statement shall not exceed three single-spaced, single-sided pages. The statement may broadly address areas such as:

• Most significant research accomplishments
• Relevance of scholarly activities for the students
• Evidence of impact considering factors such as recognition, external validation, previously received research award(s), citation counts, etc.
• Publications
• Grants – include funding from government and private agencies
• Evidence of impact on students
• If relevant, provide details regarding extraordinary challenges faced by the nominee in their scholarship endeavors and the quality of their accomplishments given these challenges.

University Service Award

Each applicant shall submit a statement of university service activities as established over the most recent three-year period. The statement shall not exceed three single-spaced, single-sided pages. The statement may broadly address areas such as:

• Contribution to the department, college, and the university beyond regular committee activities
• Display of leadership activities
• New initiatives and leadership work, and the impact on students/faculty/college
• Grants and donations

Community Service Award

Each applicant shall submit a statement of community service activities as established over the most recent three-year period. The statement shall not exceed three single-spaced, single-sided pages. The statement may broadly address areas such as:

• Evidence of leadership role in the community
• Community service partners
• Grants and donations
• Impact of your activities on our students and local community
