Minor in Audiology

Program Description

The Minor in Audiology introduces undergraduate students to the science of hearing and balance and the clinical practice of audiology. Students explore auditory anatomy and physiology, phonetics, disorders, and foundations of evidence-based and technological approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of hearing, balance, and related disorders. The minor complements majors in health science, behavioral sciences, engineering, and education, and supports students preparing for graduate study (e.g., Doctor of Audiology program) at Sacramento State and related careers.

Admission Requirements

Students must be enrolled in the Health Science Major or related bachelor’s degree program. Students must earn a grade of C- or better for courses to serve as prerequisites.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I am currently enrolled in the Master’s or AuD program at Sacramento State, can I apply for the minor in audiology? No, the minor in audiology is only available to current undergraduate students.
I am a graduate of the BS in CSAD program at Sacramento State and completed the courses now listed in the audiology minor. Can I be granted the minor in audiology? No, once your academic record is closed (i.e., you have graduated) and the degree is awarded, no changes can be made to your record or degree.
Can I pursue a minor as a non-CSAD student? Yes! The minor is intended to complement majors in non-CSAD fields, such as health science, science, education, and behavioral sciences.
How can I register for CSAD 110, 130, and 133? To register, the following pre-requisites must be completed with a grade of C- or better: general physics (PHYS 5A or PHYS 10), introductory statistics (STAT 1), and human development (CHAD 30). These courses, or their equivalents, are included in the 20-unit minor in audiology.
Is the minor in audiology required for the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program? Though the minor itself is not required (i.e., a “minor in audiology” is not required), completing the required coursework or their equivalents satisfies most the admissions criteria for the Doctor of Audiology (with the addition of a college algebra course). Other requirements for applying to the Au.D. program can be found on the website. Students may complete this minor if they are Sacramento State students. For students who are not enrolled or who did not complete their undergraduate studies at Sacramento State, equivalents to the pre-requisite courses can be used towards satisfying the admissions requirements.
