Employment opportunities within the Department.

Tenure-track Faculty (Professors)

  • Recreation Therapy - Assistant/Associate Professor
  • Recreation (with a collateral disciplinary area e.g., Tourism, Sport) - Assistant Professor

General Description and Requirements: Tenure-track positions generally have a PhD/Doctoral/terminal degree requirement (although ABD status may sometimes be considered, if stated in the advertised criteria for a specific position). These positions are responsible for teaching, scholarly research, academic advising, internship supervision, community and university services, and other duties related to the running of the department and campus.

Temporary Full-Time (Full-Time Lecturers)

General Description and Requirements: Full-time lecturer positions are typically responsible for teaching only. These positions are full-time, teaching 15 units (typically five courses) each semester. These positions require a minimum of a Master’s degree in the appropriate subject area with several years of professional field experience. Full-time lecturers do not qualify for tenure.

Temporary Part-Time (Part-Time Lecturers)

General Description and Requirements: Part-time lecturer positions are responsible for teaching only. Teaching loads range between 0-12 units. These positions require a minimum of a Master’s degree in the appropriate subject area. Tenure cannot be achieved in these positions. Part-time lecturers are initially hired semester-by-semester with no guarantee of future employment.

To be considered, an applicant must submit:

  1. a cover letter expressing their:
    1. Interest in a position with the department,
    2. Professional and academic qualifications,
    3. Availability, and
    4. Preference of specific RPTA courses they feel qualified to teach (professional and/or academic qualifications should support these choices). Applicants may include developed syllabi used at other institutions to support their ability to teach.
  2. a current resume with listed references (minimum of three).

Note: Submitting an application is in no way a guarantee of an interview or a position. Additionally, part-time appointments are based on department need, which can vary each semester, and therefore lecturer appointments should not be considered permanent positions. Applicants may be required to give a teaching demonstration prior to consideration for an appointment.
