CSWE Learning Outcomes
California State University, Sacramento is committed to maintaining transparency and accountability in student learning outcomes. In compliance with the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) accreditation standards, the Baccalaureate Social Work (BSW) and the Master of Social Work (MSW) programs systematically assess student mastery of the nine core social work competencies identified in the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS). The findings are reported in the Learning Outcomes Assessment (Form AS 4), which details the program’s assessment measures, competency benchmarks, and student performance results. These data demonstrate the program’s effectiveness in preparing graduates with the requisite knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes for competent professional social work practice.
Baccalaureate of Social Work Program Form AS 4(B)
The Baccalaureate Social Work (BASW) program evaluates student performance in generalist practice across all nine CSWE competencies. Assessment measures include field instructor evaluations, biopsychosocial case studies, and advocacy action papers, which collectively assess both practice-based skills and applied knowledge. The program establishes an 80 percent benchmark expectation for student achievement across these measures. Results indicate that students consistently meet or exceed these benchmarks, thereby confirming the program’s effectiveness in preparing graduates for entry-level generalist practice and in meeting accreditation standards.
Master of Social Work Program Form AS 4(M)
The Master of Social Work (MSW) program assesses student learning outcomes at both the generalist and specialized practice levels, with areas of emphasis in Behavioral Health, Children and Families, and Health and Aging. Multiple assessment measures, including field instructor evaluations, policy analysis papers, biopsychosocial papers, and personal theory papers, are utilized to evaluate student competence. An 80 percent benchmark expectation is applied across all competencies. Findings demonstrate that MSW students consistently achieve or surpass these benchmarks, affirming the program’s success in preparing graduates for advanced practice roles and in upholding CSWE accreditation requirements.
