Public Behavioral Health MSW Training Program

Preparing Future Behavioral Health Leaders in Public Systems

The Public Behavioral Health (PBH) MSW Training Program prepares Master of Social Work (MSW) students for careers in publicly funded behavioral health settings. The program includes specialized training, field education in PBH settings, and stipend support for eligible students.

Program Eligibility

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be enrolled in a participating MSW program
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be matched with a publicly funded behavioral health field placement
  • Not be receiving funding from another HCAI-administered or other state-funded training, stipend, or scholarship program for the planned training year

Pending funding, applications typically open in the spring semester for current MSW I students and eligible incoming advanced standing students who would participate in the program during their MSW II year.

Program Commitments

What Participation Requires

PBH trainees complete required training activities during the program year. After graduation, trainees are expected to pursue LCSW licensure and complete 12 months of full-time equivalent service in a publicly funded behavioral health setting for each year of training received.
