Out to Lunch Program

The College of Health and Human Services strives to increase student success, and promote faculty-student engagement. In order to promote faculty-student interactions, outside of the classroom, the College has created the “Take your Professor to Lunch Program.” This will create opportunities for informal conversations, explore educational research, obtain career advice, and build an educational relationship – a key factor in requesting future letters of reference.

This program is student initiated with an undergraduate student inviting a College of Health and Human Service’s faculty member to lunch. Meal vouchers are limited and distributed first-come, first-served.

If you have questions, please contact HHS Student Success Center, (916) 278-7643, or stop by SLN 3000.

The online application is open during fall and spring semesters while classes are in session.

Program Details

To be eligible, you must be pursuing an undergraduate degree within the College of Health and Human Services (Communication Science and Disorders, Criminal Justice, Nursing, Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, Parks, and Tourism, and Social Work).

Review the information below — be certain to read student and faculty eligibility. Because funding for this program is limited, and we wish to extend this opportunity to as many undergraduate majors as possible, you may request a set of meal cards once per semester (once fall semester and once spring semester) whether you dine alone with a faculty member or as part of a student group.

  1. Invite a College of Health and Human Services faculty member (cannot be a graduate student - GTA/GRA/GAA) to lunch and confirm a date and time that you will meet. To ensure we have enough time to process your request, please set the date at least one week in the future. This date must be finalized before completing the application. The date for your lunch must occur before finals week.
  2. Select a location.
  3. Complete the online request form at least one week before your scheduled lunch. The online form link is at the bottom of this page. Registration is open during the academic year, fall and spring terms.

You and your professor will be notified via email within one week. We will let you know whether the lunch has been approved and, if approved, where to pick up your meal cards — one for your meal and one for the faculty member’s meal.
