CSU-SPaRA Program Participation

California State University STEM Pathways & Research Alliance

CSU-SPaRA is a comprehensive, statewide program dedicated to increasing the number of students from graduating from campuses of the California State University (CSU) with baccalaureate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Originally initiated in 1994 as the CSU-LSAMP Alliance, CSU-SPaRA currently consists of all 22 campuses of the CSU. The STEM Pathways and Research Alliance (SPaRA) proposed a continued emphasis on activities designed to enhance graduate school preparedness of upper division students.

General Eligibility & Selection Criteria

In accordance with California’s Prop 209, and in agreement with the SCOTUS SFFA, June 2023 ruling which prohibits using race, ethnicity, or sex as criteria in public employment, public contracting and public education, a student must meet all three (3) criteria below to be eligible to participate in the CSU STEM Pathways & Research Alliance:

  1. Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  2. Be enrolled at a participating CSU campus in an undergraduate major in a STEM discipline.
  3. Be an individual interested in pursuing graduate studies or join the workforce in a STEM field that is outside the health profession degrees or careers.
