Placement, Learning and Understanding Mathematics (PLUM)

Placement, Learning and Understanding Mathematics (PLUM) is a program designed to help entering students determine which first-year mathematics or statistics course is the right choice for them.

The PLUM program is a series of online activities.

You will read about some of our mathematics and statistics course offerings and how we view academic quantitative reasoning. Then, you will complete the following:

  • a self-inventory to review your background and feelings about your quantitative reasoning skills, and
  • a quantitative reasoning activity

Taking PLUM

All Sac State students are required to complete General Education Area B4: Math Concepts.

We know, however, that one type of class is not the right fit for every student. Our goal is to help you discover, based on your background and experiences, which course will enable you to be most successful.

All first time freshmen must participate in PLUM.

  • The activities are live now in Canvas. You will log in using your Sac State email account.
  • Please plan to complete this requirement before your orientation date.
