Supporting Sac State Physics and Astronomy

It is a fact that higher education in the State of California does not have the same level of public support as it has in the past. In fact, the non-salary operating funds we receive from the state are about 60% of what it was in 2002, despite having more than double the majors and 50% higher total enrollment across all of our classes. As a department, we have benefited tremendously from the generous support of a number of people: emeriti, alumni, faculty, and others.

We use external funds to support a wide range of programs and activities in the Department. They include:

  • Scholarships
  • Student Research Projects
  • Faculty Research Projects
  • Colloquium Series
  • Travel to Conferences
  • Offering Special Classes

These programs have allowed us to expand and elevate our program to one that is recognized around the country as a premier undergraduate physics program.

How Can You Help?

There are a number of whys that you can help our students and faculty. Not all donations need to be large amounts - there is a lot of impact that a number of smaller donations can make (think of it as "integral fundraising" - adding up lots of epsilons can result in a meaningful number). Some of the programs that can benefit from this integral approach are:

  • Partovi Summer Undergradate Research Experience Program
  • Physics Annual Fundraising Account
  • Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Program
  • or supplement any of our other scholarship programs

Interested in creating a new scholarship or program? Perhaps you're interested in contributing to the new Science Complex, Planetarium, or Observatory? Maybe you want to discuss how recurring donations can impact our students? Feel free to reach out to Prof. Chris Taylor, Department Chair to set up a meeting to see how we can help you implement your plan.
