COLLEGE OF NATURAL SCIENCES AND MATHEMATICS

Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Awards Program

The College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program uniquely combines meaningful hands-on research experiences and faculty mentorship. With the SURE Program, students team up with professors on research projects that will enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving capability and shape their educational and career paths for years to come. Best of all, students earn a salary, helping alleviate the need for additional employment during the summer. Through the SURE program, participants concentrate on their research, prepare presentations, and build a professional network. Undergraduate research can be one of the most important and rewarding experiences for students. Through hands-on research, students will be able to:

  • Expand their existing knowledge
  • Tackle open-ended problems with creativity, resourcefulness, and determination
  • Navigate the “messiness” of science—a process of trial, error and new discovery
  • Gain hands-on experience that will enhance graduate school applications and career prospects
  • Work closely with a faculty mentor in the lab to deepen knowledge in biological sciences, chemistry, geology, geography, math, statistics, physics, and astronomy

The SURE Program is made possible in part through the generosity of our alumni and friends who believe in the importance of undergraduate research experiences.

Here is the 2023 SURE call-for-applications for the prospective SURE applicants and all eligible NSM undergraduate students are encouraged to apply below. The application materials will be updated each year.
