BS in Nutrition and Food

Sacramento State's Nutrition, Food & Dietetics Department (NUFD) offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nutrition and Food, providing students with the flexibility to complete their coursework fully in-person, fully online, or through a blend of both modalities. While the degree is primarily offered in a face-to-face format on campus, recent approval has introduced an online option, allowing students to choose the course delivery method that best suits their learning preferences and schedules.

Every student accepted into the program will have the opportunity to select either in-person, online, or a combination of course modalities to meet their educational needs. Nutrition courses in the BS NUFD major are offered in an online format at least once over a two-year cycle, ensuring that students can fulfill their required coursework within that timeframe after completing prerequisites and general education courses at Sacramento State or local community colleges.

BS in Nutrition and Food Delivery format: Face-to-face, Online, Hybrid

The Nutrition, Food & Dietetics Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Food in multiple modalities (On-campus, Hybrid, and Online). The BS in NUFD program prepares students for careers in the field of nutrition, food management, community nutrition, and food sustainability.

Prerequisites: The following prerequisites must be met before applying to second BS in NUFD:

  • Overall ≥ GPA 2.5​
  • At least C- grade in Sacramento State’s equivalent courses for General/Introductory Chemistry (Chem 1A or Chem 6A); Basic Biological Concepts (Bio 10), Introductory Psychology (Psyc 2); Introduction to Statistics (Stat 1). INFORMATION TO ADD DIETETICS CONCENTRATION WITHIN BS IN NUTRITION AND FOOD (DIDACTIC PROGRAM IN DIETETICS)

BS in Nutrition and Food (Dietetics Concentration)

Delivery format: Face-to-face, Hybrid (Dietetics Concentration cannot be completed all online)

All applicants will be first admitted into the BS in Nutrition and Food degree plan; after completing the following requirements students will be eligible to declare the Dietetics Concentration:

  • Overall GPA ≥ 3.0
  • Completion of General Chemistry series (Chem 1A and Chem 1B); Basic Biological Concepts (Bio 10); Introductory Psychology (Psyc 2); Introduction to Statistics (Stat 1); Food Safety and Sanitation (NUFD 9), Nutrition and Wellness (NUFD 10), Principles of Food Preparation (NUFD 11), and Nutrition and Metabolism (NUFD 113) with a grade of at least C.

Accreditation: The Dietetics Concentration is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The Concentration prepares students for supervised practice leading to eligibility for the Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and nutrition and dietetic technician, registered (NDTR), as well as prepares students for graduate school, and a variety of careers in clinical nutrition, community nutrition, private practice, food service administration, and food science.
