Political Science Add/Drop Information

Political Science Add/Drop Information (Fall 2026)

Information on processes, deadlines and other important details regarding adding and dropping classes during the first four weeks of instruction in the Political Science Department.

Adding courses

Students should ensure all holds are cleared, no time conflicts exist and all prerequisites have been met before submitting OnBase forms.

First Two Weeks of Semester (August 31 - September 11, 2026)

  • If unable to add class using MySacState, fill out Petition to Add/Drop/Withdraw from Courses (Found in OnBase)
  • Form automatically gets forwarded to Instructor for review.
  • Upon Instructor approval, form will be forwarded to Department Staff for processing.
  • Verify enrollment via MySacState.Please note that Canvas enrollment does not constitute official course enrollment.

Third and Fourth Weeks of Semester (September 12th - 28, 2026)

  • Fill out Petition to Add/Drop/Withdraw from Courses (Found in OnBase)
  • Form automatically gets forwarded to Instructor for review.
  • Upon Instructor and Department Chair approval, form will be forwarded to Department Staff for processing.
  • Verify enrollment via MySacState. Please note that Canvas enrollment does not constitute official course enrollment.

After Fourth Week of Semester (Beginning September 29, 2026)

  • Adds only approved due to University error
  • Fill out Petition to Add/Drop/Withdraw from Courses (Found in OnBase)
  • Form automatically gets forwarded to Instructor and Department Chair for review.
  • Upon Department Chair approval, form will be forwarded to Dean’s Office.
  • Upon Dean’s Office approval, form will be sent to the Registrar’s Office.
  • Verify enrollment via MySacState. Please note that Canvas enrollment does not constitute official course enrollment.
  • Students are responsible for payment of all fees, including applicable re-enrollment fees.

Dropping courses

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN AUTOMATIC DROP

First Two Weeks of the Semester (August 31 - September 11, 2026)

  • Students are responsible for dropping courses using the Student Center via MySacState and do not need to submit an OnBase form. See the video below for how to navigate enrollment using the Student Center.

Third and Fourth Week of Semester (September 12 - 28, 2026)

  • Fill out Petition to Add/Drop/Withdraw from Courses form (Found in OnBase).
  • Form automatically gets forwarded to Instructor for review.
  • Upon Instructor approval, form will be forwarded to Department Staff for processing.
  • Department Staff will drop you from the course. (allow 2 business days for processing)
  • Verify removal of course from schedule via MySacState.

Fifth and Six Week of Semester (September 29 - October 9, 2026)

Reasons for dropping during this period include medical, carrying an excessive course load, student’s inadequate academic preparation for the course, or the student having significant job or career changes.

  • Fill out Petition to Add/Drop/Withdraw from Courses (Found in OnBase).
  • Form automatically gets forwarded to Instructor for review.
  • Upon Instructor and Department Chair for approval, form will be forwarded to Registrar’s Office for processing.
  • Verify removal of course from schedule via MySacState.

Seventh through Twelfth Week of Semester (October 10 - November 20, 2026)

Reasons for withdrawal during this period include only medical or work-related reasons clearly beyond the control of the student; a student-initiated job change, carrying an excessive course load or inadequate preparation does not qualify.

  • Fill out Petition to Add/Drop/Withdraw from Courses (Found in OnBase).
  • Form automatically gets forwarded to Instructor for review.
  • Upon Instructor and Department Chair approval, form will be forwarded to the Dean’s Office for review.
  • Upon College Dean’s approval, form will be forwarded to the Registrar’s Office for processing.
  • Verify removal of course from schedule via MySacState.
