Ayad Al-Qazzaz Sociology Student Symposium

2023

The 2023 Ayad Al-Qazzaz Sociology Student Symposium featured over 50 presentors showcasing various topics, including: Social Attitudes, Mental Health, Religion, Social Class, Academia, Housing Reform, Capitalism, and more. These presentations took on a round table format, allowing for questions and discussions.

During the event, the Department of Sociology honored Professor Ayad Al-Qazzaz with an award for his Lifetime Achievements in Sociology.

2022

The 2022 Sociology Student Symposium marked the return of the event since the beginning of the Coronavirus Pandemic of 2020.

The first to be held simultaneously in person and virtually, the event was a success thanks to the faculty/staff, the student presenters, and all those who came to observe. Instead of the traditional poster presentations, students this year welcomed guest to join them for a “round table” of discussion.

The group of around 55 students presented topics on a multitude of subjects, including: Politics, Relationships & Family, SES, Mental Health, & Happiness, Social Problems, and Work, Fun & Wellbeing.

2019

During Fall 2019, Sociology students presented on their research topic of interest based on various thoroughly investigated sociological issues.

These research topics were presented via conference style on a poster presentation, in a professional setting. Topics varied from Crime & Deviance, Education, Environment, Family & Relationships, Gender & Sexuality, Health & Medicine, Immigration, Politics, Race and Ethnicity, Religion and Social Class.
