Sociology Minor
Description
The sociology minor allows students flexibility in selecting courses in the various subject areas covered in the program. The areas covered are:
- social theory and methods of inquiry; and
- advanced studies, such as family, immigration, education, politics, religion, sport and environment, crime and deviance, diversity and inequality, socialization and interaction, globalization, and social change.
How to Apply
- First, review the list of course requirements;
- Second, complete this form once you complete all the courses (21 units);
- Third, meet with Soc Chair (Dr. Heidy Sarabia) or another sociology advisor to get Advisor and/or chair signature; and
- Finally, submit this form to the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, by email to ugs@csus.edu, who will approve or disapprove the course of study.
Total Units Required for Sociology Minor Completion: 21 units
21 Units are required for the minor in Sociology, including 6 units of lower division courses and 15 units of upper division electives and a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on all course work completed to this point (when application is submitted).
Required Lower Division Courses: 6 Units
- SOC 1 Principles of Sociology (3 units)
- SOC 3 Social Problems (3 Units)
- SOC 5 Family Issues (3 Units)
- SOC 8 Sense and Nonsense in Social Issues and Research (3 Units)
- SOC 10 Issues in Crime and Social Control (3 Units)
- SOC 96A - Public Sociology (3 Units) (GE Second Semester English Composition)
Additional Upper Division Courses: 15 Units
- Select fifteen (15) units of any upper division Sociology courses (courses numbers 100 and above)
