'Tributary' Sculpture

The piece on display, titled “Tributary,” was produced in Sac State’s Art Sculpture Lab by our Public Art students under Professor Andrew Connelly, having been commissioned by the VP of Student Affairs. The final product will measure 10’ x 10’ x 14’. and will be installed outside the Welcome Center at the north entrance to campus.

When viewed during the day, the sculpture appears as tones of white and steel, but at night it becomes illuminated from the inside, displaying a variety of colors and hues. This is the second commissioned piece created by the Public Art Students. The course provides students with valuable hands-on experience, from the first client meeting pitch, to budget and proposal preparation, purchasing and construction, and finally to installation.

Thanks to donors like you, Sac State is able to offer these valuable learning experiences to our students. THANK YOU!

'Building a Bridge' Mural

This mural, which was painted by artist and Sacramento State alumna, Franceska Gamez ’14 (Art Studio), is a beautiful representation of the collective support of this community. The natural elements of the hornet, the river, the tree and the poppies, represents Sacramento State's connection to Sacramento, aka the city of trees, as well as our importance in the state of California.

The open book represents the openness of the educational mission of Sac State and the steps to open doors represents how a Sac State degree opens doors of opportunity for so many. The gears working together and the puzzle pieces represent the interconnectedness of our community, and each person plays an important role in moving us forward.

Lastly, the bridge in this mural not only represents an iconic structure on the Sac State campus, it also serves as a metaphor for the unifying power of your philanthropic support.
