Community Service Internship (ID 195)

The Community Service Internship (ID 195) connects students with a community partner to volunteer with for 13 weeks in the Spring 2026 semester. Students in this course will earn 1 unit of academic credit by completing 3 hours of volunteering per week and accomplishing additional assignments below.

Internship Requirements

To successfully earn one unit of academic credit, all enrolled students need to complete each item listed below.

  1. Attend in-person orientation (2/5, 5:30pm-6:30pm)
  2. Volunteer 3 hours per week, 39 total hours for the 13 week session with Community Partner (2/9-5/17, not including Spring Break)
  3. Attend 30 minute mid-term zoom meeting
  4. Submit 2 well written assigned journal entries and 1 discussion board post
  5. Attend 30 minute in-person end of semester wrap up meeting via zoom

Enroll for this course like any other course! Once your enrollment period opens, follow the steps below.

  1. Search for ID 195
  2. Confirm, Section 01 Instructor Blackburn
  3. Select "1 unit" from drop down menu
  4. Add to cart and enroll!

Community Partners

Community Partners are community organizations that have agreed to host Community Service Interns at their site. Please explore each community partner's website to see if you would be a good fit. Please see section below for the shifts that will be available and additional site specific requirements. All students are required to find their own reliable transportation to and from site.

  1. ACC Senior Services
    • Serving the senior community
  2. Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary
    • Serving cats
  3. Maryhouse (program of Sac Loaves & Fishes)
    • Serving unhoused women and children
  4. Mustard Seed School (program of Sac Loaves & Fishes)
    • Serving unhoused children ages 3-15yo
  5. River City Food Bank
    • Serving community members facing food insecurity
  6. NorCal Arts
    • Serving theater art students grades 1-12
  7. League of Women Voters
    • Serving local community members
  8. Sierra Service Project
    • Serving local underserved community members

It's important for students enrolled in the course to choose community partner whose shift times align with class, work, and extracurricular schedules.
