What is HornetAttain!?

HornetAttain! helps working-age adults who left Sacramento State before graduating, return to complete their degree.

Our adult-friendly achievement advisors understand the challenge of balancing work, family, and financial obligations. They provide one-on-one guidance and support to help you return to Sac State and achieve your personal and professional goals.

How is HornetAttain! Connected to Sac State?

HornetAttain! is an initiative of Sac State focused on helping adult learners who started college but left before completing to return to finish their degrees. Representatives from across Sac State are involved in the design and implementation of HornetAttain! –all working together to support returning learners.

How is HornetAttain! different from scheduling time with an advisor?

HornetAttain! is about more than academic advising. We understand that the decision to return to school can be a difficult one, and balancing your academic and career goals with other responsibilities can be a challenge. That is why each learner returning through HornetAttain! will work with an Achievement Advisor to answer questions, understand your unique needs and identify resources available to address them as you work to complete your degree.

How do I overcome feeling like I’m too old to return to school?

If you’re worried about returning to school at this point in your life, remember you are not alone. In fact, 74% percent of college students are diverse and multi-generational learners (source: NCES), and one-in-four Sac State students is over the age of 25. Once you begin taking classes, you’ll realize the strength you have in numbers as an empowered adult learner.

What can I do to start preparing to return to school?

Have a clear goal of what you want to achieve, set realistic expectations and get excited. You should check with your employer to see if they offer tuition assistance and complete the FAFSA application if you anticipate needing financial assistance. It is also a good idea to gather your transcripts from all the institutions you’ve attended to ensure you get
credit for all applicable units.

What are some tips for transitioning back to school?

Start slow and find a format that works for your lifestyle. Often going back to school after spending time in the working world can be an advantage because it provides perspective and context. According to research published by the Association of American Colleges and Universities, adults are believed to exhibit more engaged learning, problem-solving skills and a stronger internal motivation level. Given this, it may be easier than you think.

Do I really need a degree?

It depends on what you want to achieve. There is no one size fits all approach to education, and your Achievement Advisor will help you identify the best program to help you achieve your goals.

How do I get started with HornetAttain!?

To get started, please contact our HornetAttain! Learner Support Center to speak with a representative. A HornetAttain! Host will discuss setting up an appointment with an Achievement Advisor, talk through your education goals and collect some preliminary information.
