Course Information:
Required Textbook: “Introductory Chemistry”, 3rd edition, Nivaldo J. Tro
The book is specially printed for Chemistry 4 at CSUS and includes only the chapters we will be covering this semester. Because of this it is significantly cheaper to get the book from the bookstore than it is to buy it elsewhere. If you just can't wait to start reading and doing homework (good for you!), the full version of the book will work just fine.
Required Online Component: Mastering Chemistry
You MUST register for Mastering Chemistry! It is through Mastering Chemistry that your homework will be turned in and graded. If you buy the textbook at the bookstore, the access code for Mastering Chemistry is included for free. If you buy the textbook elsewhere, you will have to purchase an access code for Mastering Chemistry. Either way, you MUST have access to Mastering Chemistry. If an access code did not come with your book, you can purchase one here.
Calculators:
Graphing calculators, such as the TI-89 (or equivalent) will NOT be allowed in this course. A standard scientific calculator is required and can be purchased from the bookstore for between $10 and $20. You must know how to use your calculator and you must bring it to every class. If you need help with your calculator, ask me!
Some perfectly good calculators:
Sharp EL-506W (My personal favorite and the one that I use, ~$14.00 at the bookstore)
TI30XA from Texas Instruments (at the bookstore)
TI30XIIS from Texas Instruments (at the bookstore)
