Model UN Conference: June 10, 2025

Hornet Model United Nations (HMUN) is Sacramento State's premiere platform for fostering global awareness, leadership, and diplomacy. This year’s conference theme is "Fostering Global Resilience and Advancing Diplomacy," which engages delegates to form sustainable long-term strategies for critical issues in a rapidly globalizing international network. HMUN provides a dynamic simulation of United Nations proceedings, wherein participants represent countries or nongovernmental organizations to debate, negotiate, and develop solutions to pressing global challenges collectively.

Through its conferences and programs, Hornet MUN aims to:

  • Cultivate an understanding of international relations and diplomacy
  • Enhance public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills
  • Inspire collaboration and global citizenship among a diverse community of students

HMUN welcomes participants from all academic backgrounds and levels of experience, providing training and support to ensure everyone can actively engage. Whether you are aspiring to a career in international affairs or simply seeking to expand your worldview, Hornet MUN offers a transformative experience that combines education with action.

This year, we have the honor of welcoming Ibu Puan Maharani, doctor honoris causa and speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, as our keynote speaker. Dr. Maharani is the first woman ever elected to this esteemed position in the world’s third-largest democracy, and her keynote address will center the critical topic of “Women in International Leadership: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges.” This address represents a significant opportunity for our academic community to engage with one of Southeast Asia’s most influential political leaders.

Join us for this unique, one-day experience that tackles issues in international affairs in real time, connect with peers and professionals who share a commitment to building a more equitable future, and make your voice heard as a delegate of diplomacy. We hope to see you there!

About Sac State Model UN

The Model United Nations Program is anchored in the POLS 138 UN Simulation courses and is open to any student regardless of major. The program offers students a unique opportunity to learn about international relations while role-playing as a United Nations delegate. At the end of the program, students will have a deeper understanding of the mandate of the United nations and the global issues that are addressed by the United Nations. The course requires a two-semester commitment (fall and spring) to prepare for and then participate in the week-long Model United Nations Conference in New York City.

Students are recommended to take POLS 130, POLS 131, POLS 136, and POLS 140 prior to, or in conjunction with, this program.
