Workshop & Table Talk
Now That's Professional!
- Date: July 16th
- Time: 12 pm
- Location: Zoom
- Now That's Professional! Decolonizing Workplace Etiquette Workshop Flyer
Overview
Navigating professional settings while staying true to your authentic self. People often feel they need to "strip their being" when entering professional spaces. We want to disrupt the idea that professionalism is a neutral standard. This workshop table talk aims to explore whether this is true or false and how to maintain authenticity in professional environments.
What to Expect
Join us as we kick off our transformative series of workshops designed by and for Chicana/x Y Latina/x professionals at Sac State. These sessions go beyond basic career tips — we’re diving deep into the real stories, challenges, and strengths that shape our paths.
- Culturally-rooted career strategies
- Healing-centered conversations
- Identity-affirming networking
- Real talk about power, privilege, and purpose in the workplace
Workshop Preparation
Before the session, please review these materials for discussion:
- Read Chapter 5: Politics of Respectability from For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts by Mojica Rodríguez & Prisca Dorcas (2021) (online access with SacLink login)
- Review 1 of the LinkedIn Learning Business Etiquette course:
For more information, questions, or to request accommodations, please contact Crystal Velazquez velazquez@csus.edu at least 5 days before the event.
Latina Action Day Conference
CHLYA sponsored the registration fees for active members to attend the Latina Action Day conference on Tuesday, May 6th in downtown Sacramento at the Safe Credit Union Conference Center. Our CHYLA representatives engaged in a day of advocacy, community, and Latina power building. Through the work of the event organizers, we were well equiped to meet with Legislatures and their staff to advocate for state policy measures impacting Latinas in education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and civic engagement.
