FAFSC General Information

FAFSC Mission Statement

The Filipino American Faculty and Staff Collective (FAFSC) exists to:

  • Build meaningful connections among Filipino faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Support professional growth, mentorship, and leadership development
  • Advocate for the visibility, well-being, and advancement of Filipino communities at Sacramento State
  • Strengthen partnerships between faculty/staff and student-centered initiatives such as the Filipino Student Success Initiative (FSSI)

FAFSC Guiding Statement

FAFSC is grounded in the Filipino value of kapwa, often translated as “shared self” or shared humanity. Rooted in Indigenous Filipino ways of knowing and popularized through the work of Filipino psychologist Virgilio Enriquez, kapwa reflects the understanding that our identities, well-being, and success are deeply interconnected.

Guided by kapwa, FAFSC fosters relationships grounded in care, reciprocity, collective responsibility, and community support. We believe that creating a more equitable and inclusive university requires shared effort, meaningful relationships, and the uplifting of Filipino voices, histories, and experiences across campus.

FAFSC intentionally identifies as a “Collective” to reflect our commitment to shared leadership, collaboration, and collective responsibility.
