Financial Sustainability and Independence

Sacramento State cannot fully serve its students, faculty, or staff without the capacity to withstand unpredictable state funding cycles. This imperative calls for innovative approaches to revenue generation, diversified funding streams, and fiscal structures that reduce dependence on general fund allocations. It is directly aligned with the strategic plan's resource development and sustainability imperative, and provides the institutional foundation upon which all other priorities rest.

Cut the Red Tape Committee

The Cut the Red Tape Committee is a strategic action item formed in direct response to President Wood's listening sessions. This cross-functional committee of 30+ employees identifies key opportunities to reduce bureaucracy by analyzing high-priority suggestions and taking a deeper dive in four key areas (Procurement, Grant Awards, Class Scheduling, and Brand Standards), uncovering root causes through interviews and procedure/policy reviews. This isn't just about reduction costs— it's about reducing workload and stress on our staff.

The Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) supports the sponsored activity efforts of our faculty and staff through the administration of funded grants and contracts. The SPA is currently a department of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI), and part of this presidential imperative involves moving the reporting of sponsored projects to Academic Affairs through the AVP for Research, Innovation, and Economic Development, and establishing a support structure to streamline processes and troubleshooting in grants and contracts.
