New Student & Family Convocation
What is Convocation?
The New Student and Family Convocation is held twice a year in the Spring and Fall, and serves as the official welcome to all new students and their families to the Hornet Family.
All newly admitted first-year, transfer, and graduate students, and their guests are invited to attend.
Convocation serves as newly admitted students' induction into the University. This free event is designed to celebrate this momentous step in each student's academic journey. Convocation introduces new students and their support systems to Sacramento State's institutional values and serves as an official welcome to the Hornet Family.
Convocation ceremonies serve to "bookend" each student's collegiate experience, with convocation as the opening ceremony and commencement as the final goal.
Fall 2024 Convocation

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
University Union Ballroom
- Eligible students must register to attend, and can bring up to (3) guests to their Convocation ceremony.
- Registration for the Fall 2024 New Student & Family Convocation is open May 20, 2024 through August 9, 2024 at noon.
Frequently Ask Questions
All newly enrolled first-year, transfer, and graduate students, and up to (3) of their guests are eligible to attend Convocation.
Convocation location may vary from semester to semester.
The Fall 2024 Convocation Ceremony is taking place in the University Union Ballroom.

Eligible students can register for themselves and up to (3) guests. Click the "Register Now" button above, or below to access the registration form.
Students who register for the event will be sent information on complimentary parking for the event.
Parking Structure 2 and Parking Lot 6 are both located near the University Union, and have accessible parking options.
