Applying to the Black Honors College

Incoming First Year Students

Apply to the BHC:

The BHC admits incoming first year students each Fall semester. The application for Fall 2027 will open February 1st. Please check back on February 1st to access the application!

Complete the interest form while you wait, and we will email you the application as soon as it is available:

BHC applicants are required to meet the incoming cumulative GPA requirement of a 3.5. However, we encourage all interested students to apply to the BHC, regardless of your academic history, as each applicant is considered holistically.

Steps to Apply

  1. Complete the supplemental application found on this webpage. You may complete the BHC application at the same time you apply to Sac State. The Fall 2027 BHC application will be available February 1, 2027.
  2. Be sure to apply to Sac State via Cal State Apply. Contact the the Admissions Office for questions regarding university admissions. The Fall 2027 application is open as of Aug 1, 2026.
  3. Upon being admitted to the Black Honors College, confirm your acceptance by following the steps in your BHC admission email.
  4. Upon being admitted to Sacramento State, confirm your acceptance by submitting your Intent to Enroll in your Student Center.
  5. If you are interested in living in the Black Honors College Living Learning Community, you must submit a housing application (available March 2027). Space is limited.
  6. Register for and attend Mandatory New Student Orientation – held July 2027.
  7. Register for and attend BHC Academy – date TBD

Incoming Transfer Students and Continuing Sac State Students

Apply to the BHC:

The BHC admits incoming transfer students and continuing Sac State students (sophomores & juniors) each Spring semester. The application for Spring 2027 opened Sept 15th.

SPRING 27 BHC Application

BHC applicants are required to meet the incoming cumulative GPA requirement of a 3.5. However, we encourage all interested students to apply to the BHC, regardless of your academic history, as each applicant is considered holistically.

Steps to Apply

  1. Complete the supplemental application found on this webpage. You may complete the BHC application at the same time you apply to Sac State. The Spring 2027 BHC is currently available to incoming transfers and continuing Sac State sophomores and juniors.
  2. Be sure to apply to Sac State via Cal State Apply. Contact the Admissions Office for questions regarding university admissions. The Spring 2027 application opened July 1, 2026.
  3. Upon being admitted to the Black Honors College, confirm your acceptance by following the steps in your BHC admission email.
  4. Upon being admitted to Sacramento State, confirm your acceptance by submitting your Intent to Enroll in your Student Center.

  • Future Hornet Day: Friday, October 2nd, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
    Come view the BHC informational presentation from 12:30 – 1pm in the Pacific Suite in the University Union! You can also stop by our table in the Union Ballroom between 10am – 1pm.
  • Black College Expo: Saturday, October 3rd,10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
    Come view the BHC informational presentation from 11:30 – 12:30 in the Cottonwood Suite in the University Union! We will also be tabling in the Union Ballroom and hosting a BHC Open House! Spring 2027 BHC interested applicants can complete their application at the Open House. Find us in the Garden Level of the Library, Room 11.
