Advising Requirements

Suggested EOP Academic Advising Plan

While the Sac State Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) will not “require” students to complete an advising session, we will make suggestions that are designed to help students stay on track academically, personally, and professionally.

Freshman and Sophomore

  1. Students should seek to complete and maintain an academic plan at least once a semester
  2. Use a GE worksheet and your academic requirements page to track course completion, major requirements, and graduation timeline
  3. Students should still feel free to schedule an advising appointment with a counselor or peer advisor through the campus’s EAB scheduling software. Use EOP as the location and select a service. Again, EOP is not requiring our students to complete an advising session

Workshops and Group Advising

We encourage students to participate. in workshops on study skills, time management, financial literacy, and career planning offered by our program. These workshops and activities will be developed and announced as the academic year progresses.

Probation or At-Risk Advising

Students on academic probation or facing challenges will have mandatory advising sessions. Students will be notified directly by the coordinator of that area. Focused support to help students return to good standing.

Junior, Transfers and Senior Advising

Juniors and seniors should seek out class planning with your major advising. Seniors who have earned the minimum number of units needed to apply for graduation may be encouraged to meet with EOP counselors. The coordinator of the senior component will reach out to those students.

Graduation and Career Planning

  • Advising on graduate school applications, internships, and job readiness
  • May include resume reviews, mock interviews, and networking events
