Programs and Services
About the PRIDE Center
The PRIDE Center provides students looking for a connection to campus with programs and events, access to resources on campus and in the community, a welcoming space, and opportunities for education about LGBTQIA communities and the intersections of many identities and experiences.
We exist to create and maintain a campus environment that is open, safe, and supportive of student diversity in the areas of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
Our Goals
- Increase understanding of the LGBTQIA+ experience and to elevate academic achievement and student life at Sac State
- Enrich the diversity and equity of Sac State to ensure an inclusive environment and foster a community of belonging
- Raise the PRIDE Center’s visibility through stronger community engagement and partnerships to secure resources for the center
We will hold discussion groups on various topics. In addition, we will have art nights, movie nights, game nights, to name a few! Follow us on Instagram or check back in a couple weeks!
Peer Support Groups
The PRIDE Center offers several peer support groups for students to share experiences and offer each other emotional support. All sessions take place at the PRIDE Center:
Queer Connect is a support group for all students who are interested in supporting those identifying within the LGBTQIA+ umbrellas, and discussions are led by PRIDE Center employees. We will use our sessions to share our thoughts and feelings about what is going on that impacts the LGTBQIA+ community.
Fall 2025 meeting dates/times:
- Thursday, Oct 9th 1 - 2 p.m.
- Wednesday, Nov 5th 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
- Thursday, Nov 20th 2 - 3 p.m.
Location: PRIDE Center
Queer in Color is a support group for all students who are interested in supporting LGBTQIA+ students who identify as people of color. The in-person group meets to socialize and share personal experiences of being LGBTQIA+ POC. The sessions feature facilitated discussions and activities.

- Monday, Nov 17th 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

T4Tea is a support group for all students who are interested in supporting students who identify within the trans umbrella. Discussions and activities are facilitated by trans student advocates.

Social Events
The PRIDE Center offers arts & crafts, card games, and other activities for students. There will also be dedicated dates and times for art night, movie night, and game night.
Art Nights provide an opportunity for students to use art to express themselves and share.

Queer D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) Nights are weekly events for students to play D&D at the Center.

- September Queer D&D: Wednesday, Sept 24th 1 - 2:15 p.m.
- October/November Queer D&D: every Wednesday, 1 - 2 p.m.; first session Oct 8th and last session Nov 19th

Movie Nights offer opportunities for students to watch LGBTQ+ movies and share their feedback through facilitated discussions at the end.

Queer Anime: Join us for Queer Anime Night and discover some incredible anime and dive into exciting new worlds!

Destress... and Stuff! are casual gatherings with activities to help students destress from classes.

LavenderToons is a special PRIDE Week event for students to watch different cartoons and discuss the queer representation in them.

Educational Events
The PRIDE Center provides educational events for students, staff, and faculty to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community, identity, and experiences. These events help campus members gain knowledge about LGBTQ+ topics and consider them with more depth and understanding.
Creative Resistance: Protest Art Workshop is an event in collaboration with the Library for participants to learn more about protest art from various movements in history and get to make their own pieces using materials from the Makerspace.

Trans Theory and Feminism: Histories of Activism is a conversation with Professors Tristan Josephson, M. Senyonga, and Rebekkah Mulholland as they explore the historical and theoretical intersections between transgender studies and feminist movements.

Discussions, Presentations, Sharing
The PRIDE Center offers several various panel presentations, facilitated discussions, and other opportunities for students, staff, faculty and administrators to share experiences and resources. Some discussions feature participants telling their personal stories, while other presentations include collaborations with other campus partners to share pertinent information about topics like student life or job searching.
Open Mic: Living Our Truths Showcase provides an opportunity for participants to celebrate and share their own identity and experiences, as well as discover the power of connecting with community and allies through listening to others’ stories. This event is in collaboration with the APIDA Center.

Stitching Myself With Love - Mental Health and the LGBTQA+ Community is a zine project featuring poetry, written prose, personal essays, artwork, and photography that focus on the theme of mental health and identity/orientation.

Submit to Stitching Myself With Love
In Pieces is a zine project dedicated to amplifying intersectional LGBTQIA+ voices across Sac State. It explores the crossroads of queer and trans experiences with various other aspects of identity, including race, class, ability, and nationality. Submissions of all kinds are welcome, from short stories and poetry to collages, drawings, and photos - anything that can be put onto a printed page!

Rainbow Wardrobe

Rainbow wardrobe is our gender-affirming closet that enables individuals to choose clothes that resonate with who they are, which serves as a powerful act of self-expression. Every item is free and available for everyone. There is no need to make an appointment; you can check out the wardrobe during the PRIDE Center’s regular office hours.
We accept donations as well: we accept clean clothing, accessories, and shoes in good condition. Donations help us provide a diverse selection for individuals seeking gender-affirming options.
PRIDE Center Library

We have hundreds of books and films on LGBTQ+ topics at the PRIDE Center. They are available for students, staff, and faculty to check out for up to four weeks.
Advising
Peer Wellness Advocates (PWAs) are part of the Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services team, and they serve as an additional resource to promote safety and well-being on campus.PWAs are current students who are trained in crisis management and de-escalation. They are also trained to be active listeners who can provide culturally competent and confidential support to their peers.
Several PWAs are assigned to be present at the PRIDE Center at specific times throughout the week to provide one-on-one sessions with students. Students can schedule an appointment in advance, or come in during any of the following times for a 30-minute session.
Fall 2025 PWA schedule:
- Johnny: Mondays, 3 – 5 p.m.; Wednesdays, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Kira: Tuesdays, 9 – 10 a.m.; Wednesdays, 1:30 – 4 p.m.; Thursdays, 9 – 10 a.m.; Fridays, 3 – 4:30 p.m.
- Jeri: Fridays, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Academic Advisors provide academic support for students with topics such as general education and graduation requirements, class registration, and transfer credit. The PRIDE Center has been assigned an integrated Academic Advisor, Martell, who is available to meet one-on-one with students in-person at the center or online. Students can drop in during the listed times or book a 30-minute appointment in advance.

Faculty Scholars are faculty members who work with Cultural Academic Resource Centers to support the centers’ students in various ways using their expertise. The PRIDE Center’s Faculty Scholar is Dr. Daniel Cisneros, a Professor in the MS Counseling program at Sac State. Dr. Cisneros provides office hours in the PRIDE Center for students, during which he offers guidance on academic goals and career plans, research mentorship, graduate school planning, and community connection with LGBTQ+ students.

Rainbow Ally Training
The Rainbow Ally Training is an in-person or virtual interactive workshop that helps attendees learn about the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals and how to be supportive and inclusive of queer-identifying students. Presentation topics include LGBTQ+ definitions and terminology, gender-inclusive language, promoting safety, allyship accountability, and laws that affect queer, trans, and gender-diverse individuals. Participants will also engage in conversations about the influence of identity on student success and campus safety for LGBTQIA+ community.

Customized Presentation or Workshop
The PRIDE Center also delivers customized presentations, workshops, or facilitated discussions for any campus department or office who requests it for their staff and for any faculty who would like the PRIDE Center to present to their class. We collaborate with the requestor to tailor the content of the presentation to meet the needs of the learners. Contact PRIDE Center at pride@csus.edu for details.
