Frequently Asked Questions

How much will 6 units cost in the Summer?
Summer tuition fees are $285/unit x 6 units = $1,710 plus Mandatory Campus fees $137 = $1,847. Click here to see the complete list of tuition fees and details.

How do I know how much summer Pell I would be eligible for?
The best way to estimate your eligibility for the summer Pell Grant is to review your spring 2020 Pell Grant award. If you were enrolled full-time in spring 2020, you would have received up to the full amount for that semester. For summer 2020 you can be eligible for half of your Pell Grant if you are enrolled in 6 units.

Example: Spring 2020 Pell Grant at $3,097 at 12+ units (full-time) | Summer 2020 Pell Grant at $1,548 at 6 units (half-time). Note: award amounts will vary based on the student’s eligibility and file.

When will my summer Pell disburse?
Once your summer aid application is filed and you are enrolled. Aid should release when your LAST class begins as we are required to verify the enrollment start date.

Example #1: If you enroll in 3 units in Session 1 and 3 units in Session 2, your Pell grant should pay out the week of the start date of Session 2.

Example #2: If you enroll in a total of 6 units during Session 1, then your Pell grant should payout during the week of the start date of that session.

How do I apply for Summer Pell?
You must submit the summer aid application as long as the following conditions are met:

You can access the application from your Student Center to the bottom right > under the Financial Aid links > Summer Application link. Note: A revised application must be submitted ANYTIME there are changes to your class schedule. The processing of the application can take 2-3 weeks.

Are the federal loans offered?
Yes, if you have not used up your loans (Subsidized/Unsubsidized) from the 2019-20 school year. These offers will be included (along with Pell grant, if qualified) when you submit your Summer Aid Application.

When does the federal loans disburse?
If you pursue federal loans, they pay out the same way as the Pell Grant – once your 6 units have begun.

When do I pay for my summer tuition fees and is there a deferment?
You can click to see the due dates here or you can reference the dates listed on your Student Center. There are no fee deferments offered during the summer session – make your payments through the College of Continuing Education.

How do I receive my summer aid refund?
Refunds are issued like a regular fall/spring semester.

  • If you normally receive your financial aid refund by a paper-check, be sure your address is current on file. Allow 5-7 business days from the disbursement date.
  • If you normally receive your financial aid refund by direct deposit (e-refund), allow 2-3 business days from the disbursement date.

Transaction of disbursement dates can be viewed when aid is authorized for payment on your Student Center > Account Inquiry Page.

If all summer school courses are online, why am I having to pay fees for the University Union/Well that cost over 200+ dollars?? I understand if the semester started and was used those facilities at some point in the semester, but to change all summer sessions to online classes and still expect me to pay knowing the facilities cannot be used is slight at the least. Be fair Sac State, if the majority of your students lose their jobs and do not receive financial aid, like myself and you are not modifying tuition then you are a part of the problem, not the solution!!
While we offer refunds for services such as on-campus housing and parking, we are not able to refund mandatory student fees (like those that continue financial support for operations, facilities, and employees at the Union/WELL) due to California State University system policy. You can read more about the CSU policy on the Cal State website. If you have additional questions about the policy, please email csu-chancellor@calstate.edu.

Since it was officially announced on Sunday, March 29th that SUMMER session would be held ONLINE, what does that mean for the "mandatory campus fees?" Are we still going to be required to pay for all of them? I'm asking because it is my assumption, and probably not just mine but others' too, that campus will be running the same way over the summer as it is now, with very limited operations.
As of now, there is has been no decision on when services like the Union, WELL, and AIRC will reopen. However, things are changing daily and as information becomes available it is a top priority to communicate updates and reopen campus. Please see the answer above regarding the CSU mandatory student fee policy.

I have registered to attend the Summer Intensive Program for my Social Work major at Sac State so I can graduate at the end of Summer. This program requires participation in field practice which involves placement in an internship. Is the Summer Intensive Program going to be canceled since most likely we won’t be able to complete the internship portion of the program? This start date of this Summer Program is May 26, 2020.
This will vary by internship. Your internship coordinator and/or major department chair will be able to provide the best answer to this question. Please reach out to them.
