About

What exactly is Dean of Students?

Situated within the Division of Student Affairs, the Dean of Students is a central resource for all students requiring support and those concerned about other students who may be struggling with crisis, conflict, or needing a greater connection with community life.

The Dean provides proactive leadership and structure and works to help students feel welcomed and engaged, while receiving the support and services necessary to succeed. The Dean serves as a connection between the student body and administration, as well as faculty and staff.

The commitment to assist with the overall student experience, create an inclusive atmosphere, collaborate with campus partners and services, and be an advocate to encourage and support students holistically is a primary aspect of the office mission.

The Dean of Students provides a safe space and welcoming, compassionate environment, striving to engage students with the campus community and also respond to student needs immediately as challenges arise or barriers are presented.

Bill Herbert HeadshotWelcome Hornets!

Our office is committed to supporting you as part of the mission and vision of the Division of Student Affairs. At the core as Dean, my goal is to make sure you are supported academically and personally, and also aware of our Student Engagement & Success programs within the Division that are such important components of the campus experience. I encourage you to learn more about what is available and insert yourself into the welcoming spaces we have within Student Engagement & Success.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you are facing any challenges or just need assistance getting involved as you navigate Sac State during your time as a student. My door is always open for students, and I look forward to meeting you while out and about at various campus activities and events.

I wish you the best, Stingers Up!
