Tailgating this Weekend?
Know Before You Go!
Football game days are all about school spirit, tailgating, and coming together as a community. To make sure everyone enjoys the day safely, please remember that Sac State’s alcohol and drug policies will be strictly enforced at all tailgating events. Before heading out, take a moment to review what’s prohibited so you’re not caught off guard. Knowing the rules helps keep tailgating fun, safe, and positive for everyone.
Your health and safety matter—let’s look out for each other and show our pride in the right way. After all, this is Our Hive, Our Home!
Tailgating Hours:
Starts: No earlier than 4 hours before kickoff.
Ends: No later than 30 minutes before kickoff.

- Alcoholic beverages provided as free awards by students, campus organizations, or other members of the academic community
- Drinking if you’re under 21

- Tailgating outside of Lots 7 & 8 (no tailgating in any parking structure)
- Leaving trash behind (fines may apply)

⚠️ Violations = loss of tailgating privileges, citations, arrest, or student discipline.
Promoting a Safe, Healthy Campus
Abusing alcohol or other substances can harm your health, academic success, and the overall safety and well-being of the campus community, while also undermining the Sac State mission. We all share a responsibility to care for one another and to make thoughtful, informed personal choices. The link below provides information and resources to support and educate you if you are struggling with alcohol or substance abuse.
Before you head out to tailgate, here are a few quick reminders so we can all have fun and keep things safe:
- Turn it down: All amplified sound (yes, even car speakers) must be off 30 minutes before kick-off. You’ll hear reminders throughout.
- Parking update: After the 3rd quarter, cars can’t park in Lots 7 & 8. Vehicles will be rerouted to the ramps.
- Policy check: Any violation of Sac State’s alcohol, drug, or tailgating rules can result in losing your tailgating privileges, getting cited or arrested, and/or student conduct action.
Know Before You Go! Let’s keep tailgating fun, safe, and Hornet-proud.
This is Our Hive, Our Home—let’s take care of each other and our community.
