Community Standards
These shared community standards reflect the collective values of Sacramento State's Cultural Academic Resource Centers. They apply to all students, staff, faculty, and visitors who use these spaces.
Respect Everyone
Treat everyone with dignity. No hate speech, harassment, or discrimination, period.
Celebrate differences in culture, identity, language, and perspective; don't mock or dismiss them.
Listen actively, challenge ideas not people, and assume good intent. Address impact when harm happens.
Space, Noise & Care
Keep noise low, use headphones when appropriate, and be mindful of shared seating and table space.
Clean up after yourself (trash, food, spills, and shared equipment) and leave the space better than you found it.
Follow posted signage regarding furniture, equipment, and technology usage.
Take your belongings when you leave; we don't have storage for personal items.
Using the Space
These spaces are for student support, studying, and programming. Other gatherings need prior staff approval.
Take only what you need from shared resources (food, snacks, outlets) so everyone gets access.
Events and tabling must be approved in advance. If you host, you're responsible for your group. Be inclusive, clean up, and respect time limits.
Honor room reservations; check with staff if you're unsure.
Confidentiality & Privacy
Respect the privacy of others and avoid sharing personal stories or sensitive information shared in these spaces without permission.
No photos, videos, or recordings without prior approval from staff and those present.
Conflict & Safety
Handle disagreements with maturity. Don't escalate or bring conflict into shared spaces.
No fighting, threats, intimidation, or behavior that compromises the safety of others.
If something feels off, tell a staff member. We're here to help.
Be accountable: take responsibility and work to repair harm when it occurs.
If Standards Aren't Followed
Failure to follow these standards may result in educational conversations, requests to leave the space, referral to university processes, or other appropriate action depending on the situation.
Community Check
Before you act, ask yourself:
“Am I helping make this space welcoming, respectful, and supportive for others?”
