No. All students complete the same application. However, some questions are only applicable to returners.

General Eligibility

To apply, students should meet the following minimum eligibility criteria:

• Full-time, enrolled undergraduate student at a College Corps partner campus
• Has a high school diploma or its equivalent by start of program
• Must currently be and remain in good academic standing
• Ability to commit to the program for the full academic year
• Must be a US Citizen, US National, legal permanent resident or AB 540 CA Dream Act Student (see below)

Financial Need

Eligible students should meet at least one of the following four criteria:

• Qualifies for a Federal Pell Grant
• Qualifies for State Cal Grant
• Qualifies for Middle Class Scholarship
• Needs to work part time and/or borrow student loans to meet educational costs

Undocumented Students

• Is an AB-540 CA Dream Act Student
• Is a Cal Grant A or B recipient (Note: this requirement may be waived at some participating campuses; please consult your institution for more details.)

Yes, both incoming first-year students and transfer students can apply.

Unfortunately, College Corps isn't currently available to support international students, but we hope it will be in the future. For International students, we recommend them to connect with the Career Center to find internships that can support them. For more information visit, the Career Center website.

You can have a job while serving, but you will need to prioritize your time with College Corps and other responsibilities. Fellows are expected to complete 450 hours of service and/or 15 hours per week by the end of the contract period.

However, if you are currently participating in other programs associated with AmeriCorps (BruinCorps, Jumpstart, etc…), please check with us first.

Yes, this program is competitive as there are limited spots. We advise to apply as early and take your time completing the application process.

This program is open to all majors! Students must be a full time (12 units), undergraduate student throughout the entire academic year.

No, there is no age limit to participate in the program.

This program will be considered financial aid for the academic year. Each student's financial aid package is different. We encourage you to contact the Sac State Financial Aid and Scholarships Office if you have questions about how this program will impact your unique situation.

Fellows who participate in the program are eligible to receive up to $7,000 in living stipends, and up to $3,000 in education awards upon successful completion of the 450 hours.

Selected undergraduate students will be referred to as College Corps Fellows throughout the duration of the program.

The fellowship refers to the year-long commitment and service completed with an external community partner. As a College Corps Fellow, you will be assigned an external community partner to work with and complete most of the 450 service hours with this community host site.

Fellows will determine their schedule with their Site Supervisor at their assigned site. Ideally, Fellows are expected to serve the same amount of hours each week with a consistent schedule. We expect fellows to do 15 hours per week.

College Corps staff are committed to helping our fellows be successful in this program. Fellow Advisors will work with you to assist you with your journey in completing the 450 hours.

Additionally, Fellows can also make up hours through community service activities.

No, current employment cannot count as service. College Corps aims to enhance volunteer experience for students to support the Sacramento community. Although you will receive an award for your volunteer efforts, the hours must be accumulated through one of our partner organizations and be volunteer hours, not work hours.

Each Fellow is responsible for their own transportation to and from their host site. In the application, you will note whether you have transportation, what kind (car, bike, etc.) you have, and how far you are willing to travel. We will work hard to ensure placements are within a reasonable distance based on your responses. Do not let transportation be a deterrent to applying.

During the onboarding process, you will be asked to choose your focus area and up to five host site locations. We take your preferences into consideration; however, the final decision depends on the information you provide regarding travel, transportation, schedule, and program needs.

Fellows are expected to serve at the same site for their entire year of service.

Community service event opportunities may occur throughout the year. These may allow students to do community service at other sites.
