Peer Counseling:
Not sure if you're ready to meet with a professonal counselor?
Peer counseling with a Peer Wellness Advocate is a great place to start. Peer Counselors are current Sac State students who are trained to be supportive listeners and problem solvers. Peer Wellness Advocates offer free, confidential support. Lear more about peer counseling and book an appointment.
What if I'm in crisis or need help now?
If you are in crisis or need urgent support:
- Call us at 916-278-6461 or visit urgent care at The WELL during the following hours:
- Monday – Thursday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- After-hours: connect instantly with TimelyCare mental health support
- If this is an emergency call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room
Schedule a Counseling Appointment
Schedule an appointment for mental health counseling. Collegiate student athletes can book appointments directly with our Interim Athletics Mental Health Counselors who is focused on supporting the mental health needs of athletes. Schedule appointments online though your Patient Portal at csus.edu/shcws or contact Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services at 916-278-6461. Telehealth and in-person appointments are available. Counseling services are completely confidential and health insurance is not required.
Peer Counseling
Not sure if you’re ready to meet with a professional counselor? Peer Counseling is a great place to start. Mental Health & Wellness Workshops
Mental Health & Wellness Workshops for Athletics are a great way to learn about mental health and gain skills to positively support mental health. Registration is not required for workshops. Walk-Ins are welcome! All workshops will be held in the Athletic Center, Room 2260.

- Wednesday 3/13 @ 6 p.m.: Understanding Athlete Mental Health
- Wednesday 4/17 @ 6 p.m.: Campus Resources for Holistic Healing
- Wednesday 5/1 @ 6 p.m.: Healthy Relationships and Communication
Coach and Staff Workshops:
- Wednesday 2/21@10 a.m.: Helping Athletes in Distress
- Wednesday 4/3 @ 10 a.m.: Understanding Mental Health Needs of Athletes
Tips for Mental Health Management
- Get consistent quality sleep.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Consider meeting with a counselor for Individual counseling support or try peer counseling.
- Maintain a healthy diet and stay hydrated.
- Keep in touch with family and friends or build new friendships
- Take a break when needed.
- Consider practicing mindfulness or gratitude
- Prioritize your hobbies outside of school and athletics.
- Use TimelyCare's self-care resources.
