Why participate?
The 2023 Surgeon General’s Advisory called the lack of social connection “A significant risk for individual health and longevity, with increased risk for anxiety, depression, and dementia, citing social connection and community as the healing agents of this public health issue. (U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory, 2023).
By registering, you are showing support for survivors, students, staff, and faculty at risk, and those who have been affected by suicide. Donations for the event are optional and can be made to AFSP. Each year, Sac State’s Campus Walk has been one of the largest campus walks in the country for registered participants. Last year, nearly 1,000 registered participants, including students, staff, faculty, and community members, came out to show their support for suicide prevention.
Mental health is an extremely important factor in the success of our students, faculty, and staff, and we hope you will continue to support the cause through this event. This is a call for all students, organizations, departments, faculty, staff, and community members to come together and not only remember and honor those whose lives have been lost to suicide but also to take action to help raise awareness surrounding the topic of mental health and suicide. Together, we can bring these topics out of the darkness and into the light to support our Hornet Family.
