Out of the Darkness Campus Walk for Suicide Prevention
Join Sacramento State’s Active Minds Chapter, Student Health and Counseling Services, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Greater Sacramento Chapter for the 12th Annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk for Suicide Prevention on April 6th, 2023, at The WELL building of Sacramento State. The event will host a Mental Health Resource Fair at 4:00 pm with the ceremony beginning at 5:30 pm. The walk will take place through the campus shortly after the opening ceremony and ends around 7:00 pm.
Parking is included for registered walk participants starting at 3:00 pm in Parking Structure III, top floor only.
The event theme for this year is We Walk Together, We Heal Together. With the recent global events, it is important now more than ever to bring light to the conversations of suicide prevention and mental health support. By registering, you are showing support for survivors, students, staff, and faculty at risk, and those who have been affected by suicide. Mental health is an extremely important factor in the success of our students, faculty, and staff and we hope you will continue to support the cause through this event.
This is a call for all students, organizations, departments, faculty, staff, and community members to come together and not only remember and honor those whose lives have been lost to suicide but to take action to help raise awareness surrounding the topic of mental health and suicide so no one ever feels alone or afraid to seek support or services. Together, we can bring this topic out of the darkness and into the light to support our Hornet Family.
Sacramento State Campus Walk Committee was recognized recently for their outstanding efforts in 2022 as one of the Top 10 Campus Walk across the country, raising $27,927 and engaging 1,057 participants, the most registered participants in the country for campus walks.
