Sacramento State’s Reduced Rate Student Housing Program provides a limited number of eligible first-time freshmen with a one-time 25% reduction on room rent during their first year living on campus.

Each year, the program offers 285 reduced-rate housing opportunities for selected students assigned to the North Village traditional residence halls (double-occupancy rooms only). The reduced rate applies to room rent only and does not include meal plan charges or any other housing-related fees.

WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED

To be considered, students must:

• Be an incoming first-time freshman;
• Have submitted a FAFSA or California Dream Act Application;
• Have verified eligibility for a need-based state grant, such as Cal Grant A, Cal Grant B, or State University Grant;
• Have submitted and confirmed the North Village Housing Application and License Agreement; and
• Maintain enrollment in at least 12 units for both Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.

HOW TO APPLY

Students interested in being considered for the 2026-2027 academic year must complete the Reduced Rate Student Housing Program Interest Form in the HornetHousing Portal by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Submitting the interest form does not guarantee eligibility or selection. The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office will verify program eligibility using the approved financial aid indicators.

SELECTION PROCESS

If the number of eligible students exceeds the number of available reduced-rate opportunities, students will be selected by lottery. Eligible students who are not initially selected may be placed on a waitlist.

Students selected for the program will be notified by email in July.

This opportunity is made possible by the California Higher Education Student Housing Grant Program, which supports affordable student housing. Beginning in 2026-2027, Sacramento State will offer 285 reduced-rate housing opportunities each year for eligible first-time freshmen assigned to North Village. Selected students receive a one-time reduction on room rent during their first year living on campus.
