Expository Reading & Writing Course (ERWC)

Curriculum Overview

The Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC) is a full-year college preparatory English course for high school seniors. The goal of ERWC is to prepare college-bound seniors for the literacy demands of higher education.

The ERWC is aligned with the California English-Language Arts Content Standards and addresses critical reading and writing problems identified by the CSU English Placement Test Committee.

  • The number of students who enter their freshman year of college from Sacramento City Unified School District ready for college level English has increased 6% with the expansion of senior year course opportunities.
  • The ERWC is designed for a grade 12 English language arts course. There is also curricula for grades 7 to 11.
