The Spring Brunch! To Register Click HERE
Linda Martin, Vice President
Sunday, May 1--a good day to celebrate the vibrance of springtime and the portent of long summer days to come!

Plan to join your friends and colleagues on Sunday May 1 at 11 am for the Association's annual Champagne Brunch at the Sacramento State Alumni Center.

Find out what others have been doing lately. Maybe they have traveled, or maybe they have finally checked a few things off the “To Do” list. Or maybe they have done something that they have been waiting for you to ask them about. And learn what interesting escapades they have planned for the future!

What would you like to tell them about your endeavors?

You will also have the opportunity to enjoy the talents of current and former CSUS students in the Arts. Our live music will be performed by violinists Sarena Hsu (2012), Laura Rubenstein-Salzedo (BA, 2010) and cellist Courtney Castaneda (MA, 2009) who are looking forward to adding the music they love to play to the lively atmosphere. A large display of visually stunning and intriguing photographs, enthusiastically provided by undergraduate and graduate students in the Photography Program in the Department of Design will be available for you to saunter past and ponder.

Chef Mike Miller is planning a filling midday meal and our own Viticulture Aficionado has selected an accompanying Italian Prosecco to delight the palate as well, for those who enjoy a bit of something bubbly.
And . . . oh yes. . . there will be door prizes, too, which have been generously provided by local businesses who endorse the Association’s mission to support CSUS students.

Now that you know what we have planned, you won’t want to miss this. Invite a guest. Reach out to other retiree friends to come and reconnect with colleagues. It's going to be a lovely day.

Costs are $35 for a member of the Association and $35 for the member's guest, and $45 for nonmembers. Notice how, by joining right now, you can immediately derive your first benefit of becoming a member! You can join the association and register for the SpringBrunch on the same form by clicking HERE.

Remember that you won’t receive an invitation or registration form in the mail so register right now for the Spring Brunch by clicking HERE.

The Cal-PERS Pension Buck
Mark Shapiro, CSU-ERFA Board

Pensions are a form of deferred compensation. CSU faculty, staff, and administrators receive salaries that generally are lower than are paid for comparable positions at other universities in the United States. Some of that difference is made up by better pension and health care benefits. Because of the structure of the CalPERS defined benefit pension program with its history of strong investment returns, the public is able to provide deferred compensation (pensions) at a much lower cost than providing direct salary enhancements. As the following graphic shows, currently it costs the California taxpayer 21 cents to provide a dollar of deferred compensation even though the pension fund is recovering from one of the worst economic crises in U.S. history. The taxpayer contribution varies, and at times has been as low as 12.5 cents per dollar of deferred compensation.

Vote in the PERS Election
Alan Wade

You should have received a ballot for the PERS election. You are encouraged to vote. Donna Snodgrass, is ERFA's endorsed candidate. Dave Humphers and I have become acquainted with Donna through our meetings with SCORE (Statewide Coalition of Public Employees), and consider her to be a great candidate for this important position. In meeting after meeting , including several with other candidates,, we have noted that Donna stands head and shoulders above the others in terms of her knowledge of the issues and her record of activism on behalf of PERS retirees.

At the very least, we should urge everyone to vote. This is important to their future.

Historical Faculty Photo Album Available Here

In 1963 our fledgling campus published a photo album of its faculty, in order of the year they were hired, from 1957 to 1963. The document was titled Faculty Profiles, SSC 1963. Our colleague Rod Sime kept a copy of it all these years. Thank you, Rod, for loaning it to us.

We have painstakingly scanned the document and converted the files to PDF so that you can download it. Once you have the file, you can print a copy just like the original. The file size is just over 13Meg, which will take only a few minutes with hi-speed internet service, but it will take awhile to download over a telephone modem. When you are ready, just click HERE to start the download.
