About Policies & Requirements
Rights & Responsibility
As a student receiving financial aid at Sacramento State, it is your responsibility to understand and follow the policies that apply to the aid you receive. Financial Aid programs are administered according to federal, state, and university regulations. Understanding your rights and responsibilities helps you maintain eligibility and successfully manage your financial aid while attending Sacramento State.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
Federal law requires Sacramento State to reasonably measure a student's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in determining eligibility for financial aid. The SAP policy governs eligibility for all Federal and State aid programs.

Disbursement & Refund of Aid
The Financial Aid & Scholarships Office authorizes disbursements of your student aid once you meet the eligibility requirements for each aid program awarded for the semester.

Refund
Financial aid is first applied to your university charges (such as tuition fees, housing, campus fees). If there are remaining funds after these charges are paid, the Bursar’s Office will issue a refund to you through eRefund or by paper check.
Repeating or Withdrawing
Federal Aid may be awarded to a student once for a previously passed course (i.e., one per class). Passing grades are: “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” and all associated with "+" or "-" as well as a grade of “CR” (Credit). If you receive a passing grade, then enroll in the class a third time, those units will not be eligible for financial aid.
How Course Repetition Impacts Financial Aid
Withdrawing from courses after the first day of instruction may cause students to incur partial fees and/or to repay certain types of financial aid. Prorated fees are charged from the first day of the semester until the day of the drop — through 60% of the semester — regardless of when the student enrolled, or when the course began. The deadline to drop from full-time to half-time (to be charged only half-time fees) is the end of the second week of instruction.
