Laptop & Equipment Checkout

To continue supporting remote and on-campus teaching, learning, and working, the Laptop Checkout & Equipment Program will offer both short-term and long-term checkout of laptops and equipment to current Sac State Faculty, Staff, and Students on a first-come, first-served basis.

What's Available?

We offer limited quantities of the following:

  • Pre-loaded laptops offer current technology and course software. Laptops are automatically updated with weekly KACE Desktop Alerts software patches to ensure device security - look for the pop-up every Thursday.
  • Web cams, headsets, Wi-Fi hotspots, and document cams.

Short-Term Checkout

Checkout Guidelines

Laptops/devices are available for short-term (4-hour maximum) on-campus use only for currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students who are in good standing (no fines or suspensions). You'll need to present a valid Sac State One Card.

Laptops can be checked out at the following locations:

  • University Library User Desk on the first floor
  • University Union Terminal Lounge

If you require a longer duration or off-campus use, view the Long-Term Checkout guidelines below.

Long-Term Checkout

Checkout Guidelines

  • IRT is providing laptops for temporary long-term on and off-campus use.

  • Continuing Faculty, Staff, and Students who need devices/equipment for teaching/learning/working for the Fall 2021 semester may continue to do so through December 2021. The checkout window is automatically extended without needing to re-apply.

  • Devices and available accessories must be requested formally and provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • One (1) laptop/device can be checked out through the end of a semester. However, whenever you're finished using the device, please follow the return instructions to return it as soon as possible to help your fellow Hornets.

  • Laptops/devices require authentication with your SacLink username and password and are to be used for coursework, teaching, or business purposes.

How to Request a Laptop

Faculty & Staff

Please send an email from your Sac State account to servicedesk@csus.edu and include:

  • Item(s) requested, first and last name, email address, phone number

Students

Using your Sac State email account, send a message to a Faculty or Staff member and ask them to send a request on your behalf to servicedesk@csus.edu. The request must come from their own Sac State email account and include all of the following information in order to be processed:

  • Item(s) requested, student's first and last name, and student's email address.

Or, Buy a Laptop Through the Hornet Bookstore

Through the Hornet Laptop Discount Program, if you purchase an eligible laptop from the Hornet Bookstore between August 2 - September 10, 2021, you can apply for a HEERF emergency grant discount at checkout!

Equipment Pick-Up & Returns

Short-Term Checkout

Pick-up & Returns

Visit the Library or the University Union to check out a 4-hour laptop loaner.
NOTE: You'll need to return it where you checked it out - please do not return it to the IRT Service Desk in AIRC 2005.


Long-Term Checkout

Pick-up New Device/Equipment

Once your device/equipment request is approved (you'll receive an email to your Sac State account confirming this), visit the IRT Service Desk Team to pick up your long-term loaner during the following hours:

  • AIRC 2005: Monday - Friday (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)

Or if you're unable to make it to campus, let us know by replying to the confirmation email, and we can help arrange a shipping option.

Just Need to Return?

If you no longer need your loaned device/equipment (you were able to purchase your own, or have made other arrangements), we're offering no-appointment drop-off returns to AIRC 2005 Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Lost, Damaged, or Stolen Equipment

Students

If a laptop/device is damaged, lost, stolen or not returned while checked out in your name, you'll be required to reimburse Sacramento State for the cost of repairing or replacing the laptop/device. If the laptop/device is lost or stolen, you will be charged a minimum replacement fee of $2,000. If it is damaged, you’re responsible for any repair costs. Please refer to the Loan Agreement and Use Policy for the conditions of use.
