Sacramento State breaks ground on new campus-affiliated housing

September 19, 2025
Sacramento State is proud to celebrate the groundbreaking of Hornet Place, a new campus-affiliated housing community designed to support Sac State students beyond their first year.
Beginning Fall Semester of 2027, Hornet Place will house 352 students and feature amenities that foster connection and wellbeing.
Hornet Place, at 7700 College Town Drive, will strengthen student retention by encouraging residents to build lasting friendships, engage in their campus community, and remain focused on completing their degrees—all while living just steps away from the university.
“Housing is needed in a place like Sacramento State where we have so many students who struggle with food insecurities, housing insecurities, transportation concerns,” President Luke Wood said.
“It’s important for us to be able to provide the kind of living and learning opportunities that are necessary to support a whole range of different issues. It addresses housing insecurity, it addresses safety for students, and it also addresses, most importantly, student success.”
Friday's groundbreaking ceremony was attended by a host of campus and community leaders. University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI), a Sacramento State auxiliary organization, purchased the property using its own funds in November 2023. Greystar Development, the company currently operating and managing the adjacent Hornet Commons, is the long-term leaseholder and developer of Hornet Place and also will manage operations.
Residents of the new housing project will have access to a pool, fitness center, yoga area, pet area, community gathering spaces, and EV charging stations.
"Once you leave your country or even out-of-state, and you come to a whole different place, there are times when you feel like you're alone or you don't know who you can rely on," ASI President Aranjot Kaur said.
"And then once you're around people who are in the same boat, you look around them and you know even though you want to be at different places, you're on the same path at the University. You're navigating together. You're not alone."
