Sport Clubs

The Sacramento State Sport Clubs Program consists of highly competitive clubs that compete against other universities in leagues, conferences, and tournaments at the local, regional, and national level.

Baseball Club

The Baseball Club has been a part of Sacramento State since 2013 and competes in the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA). In the last 3 years, the club has won 2 back to back Pacific-North Conference championships with regional playoff appearances in both years. This past season the club was promoted to NCBA Division 1 Southern Pacific-North Conference where they placed second in the new conference. At Sacramento State the club and members have been awarded sport club of the year, leader of the year, and back-to-back travel officer of the year. The club practices twice a week (Monday and Wednesday, sometimes Fridays) and only competes on weekends where they play other university club teams in the Bay Area, SOCAL, and out of state tournaments.

Bass Fishing

The Sacramento State Bass Fishing Club was formed with all levels of angling experience in mind. The club is open to anyone who would like to learn more about the sport of bass fishing, take their skills to the next level and compete in the FLW Collegiate Bass Fishing Tour. At club meetings, the club hosts seminars on various fishing techniques and fishes as a group whenever possible.

In 2010, the club had its biggest accomplishment to date, winning the Western Championship, which came with cash prize and a boat! In Spring 2014, the club had 2 teams qualify for the Western Championship. The club was inactive from 2014-2019 and will be returning as a Sport Club for the Fall 2019 season with the hopes to grow to include more teams and qualify for the Western Championship.

Competitive Cheer Club

The Competitive Cheer Club is a co-ed team that competes at NCA College Nationals in Daytona, Florida every April. The club has brought home a third place trophy the past two years.

Competitive Dance Club

The Competitive Dance Club competes in the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Championship held in Daytona Beach, Florida each April. The team competes in Division I Hip Hop and is currently ranked 4th in the nation.

Esports Club

Founded in 2019, the Sacramento State Esports Club aims to invite Gamers to compete in various collegiate tournaments on behalf of the University. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for students to develop leadership, communication, and cooperation skills in a competitive environment. The Esports Club provides teams for a variety of games. Men’s Rugby

The Men's Rugby Club has been a part of the Sacramento State campus since 1964. Our team competes in The Pacific Western Conference. We have players of all skill levels and sizes. Rugby truly is a sport for everyone. Our program is proud of the commitment, attitude, and leadership demonstrated by our athletes. Men’s Soccer

The Men’s Soccer Club at Sacramento State competes in the West Coast Soccer Association (WCSA), facing off against collegiate club teams such as UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State, and others. The team practices three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and plays matches on weekends, hosting home games on campus and traveling for away competitions.

We are focused on building a highly competitive team environment and are always seeking opportunities to challenge ourselves through additional matches and tournaments.

Men’s Volleyball

The Men's Volleyball Club has been a part of the Sacramento State campus since 1980. The club exists to promote the sport of volleyball on campus to all students. The club currently houses a division one and division two team, both compete at the collegiate level against universities from all over California and have won 2 national championships. The Men's Volleyball club has finished their season tied for 5th place in the D1AA gold bracket for the season.

Rowing

We are a co-ed club and since 1984 the Sacramento State Club Rowing team has competed against universities from all over the country. As part of the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association, the team has won multiple conference championships in the Varsity 8, podium finishes in the Men’s Double and quality placements in other various categories. We also compete and win at other events across the nation. The members of this team throughout history pride themselves on hard work, dedication, and commitment to a common goal.

Ski & Snowboard Team

The Ski & Snowboard Team was formed approximately 10 years ago. They are committed to providing opportunity for students to learn, improve, and master skills in winter sports for collegiate competition. The program is dedicated to creating an environment that promotes an active lifestyle and advocates long-lasting friendships, while developing skills as competitive athletes. The Ski & Snowboard team is ranked as one of the top five teams in the nation and strives to achieve an even high rank this coming season. Softball

The Sacramento State Softball Club is a competitive sport club here at Sacramento State. The club is excited to achieve, empower and create a safe and positive experience for athletes who want to continue playing softball competitively while showing off their hornet pride. In past years, softball club athletes have received multiple All American and All Region awards, qualified for regionals, along with a World Series appearance. The National Collegiate Softball Association has stated the Sac State Softball Club to have the best defensive team in our league. The club looks to grow on these achievements throughout the next season while building lifelong friendships and creating a team that feels like family.

Tennis

The Sacramento State Tennis Club is a part of the United States Tennis Association-Tennis on Campus program. The competitive club was founded in 2008 and offers both competitive and social opportunities to members. The Tennis Club is open to all players, of all skill levels. Members who choose to compete at the collegiate level can join the clubs traveling roster. They compete in various tournaments, against universities across California. Each semester the Tennis Club hosts affordable clinics for club members and various club tournaments.

Women's Rugby

Sacramento State Women’s Rugby Club competes in the Division I Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference, representing the university at a high level of collegiate club rugby. In 2023, the club earned the title of West Coast Rugby Conference Champions, showcasing the team’s strength and dedication on the field.

Beyond athletic achievement, the club is committed to creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere where student-athletes are supported in balancing school, sport, and life. The team is student-run with guidance from Sports Clubs and the coaching staff, providing valuable opportunities for leadership, organization, and real-world experience that extend far beyond the pitch.

At its core, the club strives to empower young women to become confident, resilient, and tenacious members of society—on and off the field.

Women’s Volleyball

The Women’s Volleyball Club has been a part of the Sacramento State campus since 2002. The purpose of the club is to give students the opportunity to continue to play volleyball throughout college in a competitive environment. The club competes in Division 1 against, not only other collegiate clubs in California, but also against other clubs throughout the nation. In 2024, the women's volleyball club brought home their FIRST national title in club history after winning the NCVF D1AAA National Championship.
