- To strengthen families
- Increase worker productivity
- birth and care for newborn

- placing a child in foster or adoptive care
- immediate family member with "serious health condition"
requiring care
- the "serious health condition" of the employee
"Serious health condition" is defined as one of the
following:
- any incapacitation or hospice, residential medical facility or hospital
inpatient care, for any period of time;
- a health condition requiring health care provider treatment that lasts
more than three days and includes any period of incapacity;
- a chronic, serious health condition that may include instances of
incapacitation and requires periodic care provider visits;
- Multiple treatments for restoration surgery or for a condition that if
untreated, likely results in a period of incapacity of three or more days.
