Faculty & Staff Student Support Referral Guide

If you are concerned about a student’s well-being, or behavior, please use the following pathways to connect them with the appropriate Sacramento State resource.

Is the student in immediate danger or experiencing a medical/mental health crisis?

If YES

(the student is in immediate danger, experiencing a medical emergency, or threatening harm to themselves or others)

CALL 911 on a campus phone or contact the Sacramento State Police Department (916) 278-6000

If NOT

Refer to Appropriate Office:

Immigration Enforcement

If you observe or are approached by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer on campus, or if there are inquiries regarding immigration status and student rights.

Protests & Student Expression

If you have questions regarding campus demonstrations, marches, or guidance on student expression and safety

Health, Mental Health & Wellness

If a student requires medical care, mental health counseling, or after-hours virtual support

Refer to:
Student Health, Counseling & Wellness Services (SHCWS)

Primary Care, Urgent Care, TimelyCare (24/7 Virtual Support), Mental Health Counseling, Nutrition Services and Wellness Coaching.

Basic Needs & Financial Hardship

If a student is experiencing food insecurity, housing instability, or an urgent Financial crisis

Refer to:
C.A.R.E.S. Office

Student Conduct Violations

If a student is engaging in academic misconduct, causing classroom disruptions, or violating the Student Conduct Code in a manner that requires formal disciplinary review

Refer to:
Office of Student Conduct

Action:
Submit a conduct report via the department website

Behavioral Concerns & Conduct

If a student demonstrates concerning, distressed, or disruptive behavior that has the potential to compromise the safety of the campus community, such as threats of harm, talk of suicide, or erratic actions that disrupt University proceedings

Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT)

Action:
Submit a referral via the department website

Disability Access & Accommodations

If a student requires academic or housing accommodations due to a temporary or permanent disability

Refer to:
Disability Access Center (DAC)

If a student is seeking peer support, identity-based communities, or cultural engagement

Mandatory Reporting Requirement

All University employees (except those designated as confidential resources) are required to report any concerns involving sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, or stalking to the Office of Equal Opportunity (Title IX).
