Resources for First Years

Here is a list of some resources first years might find useful. If you need help finding or contacting a specific resource, please reach out to your Peer Mentor or email fye@csus.edu.

Academic Support: Where to Get Study Help or Tutoring

Need help on a research paper, or struggling in your math class? We can help you! Check out all of these resources that are free to students.

  • Library Home | Sac State Library (csus.edu)
    • The library is much more than just books! Librarians can help you with research for a project, and you have access to various databases. Check out the library to see what all our library offers.
  • PARC Tutoring Peer & Academic Resource Center | Sacramento State (csus.edu)
    • The PARC offers tutoring for most General Education classes, as well as Supplemental Instruction courses. The PARC also offers workshops, tutoring videos, and a cultural competency course and workshop.
  • Reading & Writing Center Reading & Writing Center | Sacramento State (csus.edu)
    • The Reading & Writing center can help you with citations, formatting, and proofreading your assignments.
  • Math Lab Math Lab Flyer SP21.png (csus.edu)
    • The math lab offers tutoring and assistance in most math courses, like STAT 1, MATH 1, and MATH 24.
  • Major Department Website
    • Depending on your college, there may be tutoring options for your major courses, such as Business or Engineering.

Choosing Classes and Deciding on a Major

Need help figuring out what classes to take, or deciding what major you want to pursue? Check out the following resources.

  • Catalog List of Majors, Minors, & Certificates Colleges < Sacramento State (csus.edu)
    • The catalog lists all the programs Sacramento State has and the courses required for the major. Check out the courses required for the major you’re thinking about! It is crucial the courses sound intriguing to you. There’s also a tab for General Education and Graduation requirements.
  • Academic Advising Academic Advising | Sacramento State (csus.edu)
    • Academic Advising is essential for ensuring you are on track for graduation. There are many reasons you should see an advisor even if it’s not required for you. One reason is there are typically overlaps between your General Education requirements and your major course requirements, and advisors can help you find these overlaps.
  • Declaration of Major/Minor Form change-of-major.pdf (csus.edu)
    • This form will help you declare or change your major. You will need to speak with an advisor and get it signed by them to change your major.
  • Career Center Career Center | Sacramento State (csus.edu)
    • The career center is a great resource for narrowing down your career pathways, finding job or internship opportunities, as well as help on your resume, cover letter, and more.
  • Academic Calendar Academic Calendars < Sacramento State (csus.edu)
    • The Academic Calendar will tell you what days are campus holidays, when the semester starts and end, and any other important dates such as registration windows.

    • SOAL is the organization that oversees all campus organizations and leadership. This is where you can find information on academic clubs, sports clubs, Greek life, and more.
  • Centers and Programs Support Centers and Programs | Sacramento State (csus.edu)
    • There is a center or program for everyone! Take a thorough look and see what ones you can use. These centers and programs offers students a variety of resources and connections in order to help them succeed at Sacramento State.
  • ASI Associated Students, Inc. - ASI (csus.edu)
    • ASI is responsible for Sacramento State’s student government and various programs like the Children’s Center and Food Pantry. ASI also offers scholarships and job opportunities.
  • Peak Adventures peakadventures.org
    • Peak adventures offers students everything from discounted bikes, team building, and weekend camping trips. Students interested in outdoors or simply wants to get out more, Peak Adventures is a great program and resource to use.
  • Events calendar Sac State Events - Calendar (trumba.com)
    • Sac State is always having events, whether it’s visits or seminars from professionals, a career fair, or musical talent for entertainment.
